The Suseo-Dongtan section of GTX A, a metropolitan high-speed railway, is scheduled to open on the 30th of this month.

The one-way fare is a bit expensive at 4,450 won, but they say that if you get a discount, you can get a ride for less than 1,000 won.

However, the service intervals are longer than in the subway, and it is inconvenient to go down to the platform 40 meters deep underground.

Suseo Station in Seoul, the departure station of the GTX-A line.

The train to Dongdae departed at 10:07 am and arrived at Songnam Station, 10 km away, in 6 minutes.

It is similar to the regular metro, but its maximum speed is 196 km/h and it takes only 20 minutes to reach Duntan.

(Jinyong Park/GTX Business Division, National Railroad Authority)
“We expect a time reduction of at least 79% compared to current means of transportation such as buses and cars.”

The base fare for the GTX-A is 3,200 won, and charges are added every 5km, with an adult fare from Suseo to Dongtan at 4,450 won.

That's about 60% of the 7,400 won SRT fare for the same section, and discounts apply to veterans, the disabled, the elderly, and children.

K-Pass users, which will be implemented from May, can receive an additional 20% refund of the total fare, provided they use public transportation more than 15 times a month, i.e. the actual fare of the Suseo-Dongtan section. is about 3,560 won, according to the government.

Hours of operation are from 5:30am to 1:00am the following day each day, and as it shares the same route as the SRT, the interval between peak hour trains is also long at 17 minutes.

Also, the platform is 40 meters below the ground, so it takes up to 10 minutes to get off the ground.

“We're going to facilitate connected transportation through things like adding additional bus routes or installing new taxi stands…”

The Suseo-Dongtan section will open first on the 30th, and the Unjeong-Seoul Station section will open in the second half of this year.

In addition, construction continues on the Seoul Station and Suseo sections, with the goal of fully opening in 2028.

With this opening, an average of 20,000 people a day are expected to use GTX.
